When the house settles, the wood doesn't always oblige--instead, it cracks or splits. We remove and repair these pieces, then reinstall them. Sometimes the problem is as small as a sliver of wood that has snagged on something and developed a crack, or has split when a nail was pounded into it. We work glue into the crack, clamp it, and reinstall the piece--as good as new!
